Creative Writing Workshops for primary school childrenWe offer Creative Writing Workshops for Primary School Pupils in order to help meet a need that appears to exist in the Primary Sector. However, it must be clearly understood that it is not my intention to 'teach my grandmother how to suck eggs', because I do recognise the tremendous work that is going on in schools today, but rather to provide an external stimulus to support such fantastic efforts. I simply offer my experience of stage, radio and TV, as a singer, dancer and actor; as well as a person who was totally committed to helping children achieve their highest potential during my tenure as a Primary School Headteacher. That same commitment and passion still drives me forward today, in my desire to help you to help your pupils to realise their potential in this area of their education and development. Communicating with others is, without doubt, the most difficult of skills to acquire and implement effectively in society today. The lack of successful communication is clearly evident in politics, business and the home, as is demonstrated in the challenges that face our modern society. Class WorkshopsWorking in a standard class environment with the teacher in the classroom. I will lead the workshop with the teacher and learning assistant(s) being present to support the class as necessary. Focus GroupsIf you have concerns about the development of writing skills with the boys / girls then I will direct the resources specifically towards them. The School will determine which Genre they want to focus on and a suitable workshop will be prepared to suit the age group and /or gender specified. The Genres include:
INSET Workshops for StaffTo consider how to research, prepare and present a session to your class. These are designed to cover the needs of each Key Stage age range in the Primary / Infant School but not Nursery. Workshop for Parents

SpeakingAdults do not engage children in constructive conversation as much as they used to and children's interactive conversations seem to diminish by the day as more and more individual computer interactive programs become available. ReadingIt has become difficult to make reading meaningful and alive for children because so much of a visual nature is placed before them today. No longer do they have to use their imagination which can create such incredible images that will stay with them through life. Opportunities to read for themselves or to be read to have become fewer as other, seemingly more attractive, interests have usurped their time. WritingWithout the width of reading experiences, it has become not only technically more difficult for children to write in a comprehensible manner, but the genuinely creative and imaginative element has been lost by so many who have missed the awe and wonder that such great writers have been able to inspire in their readers over the generations. Such inspiration is difficult to come by these days without the constant and measured input of Speaking and Reading! By involving all three elements of Speaking, Reading and Writing, let me support you in your aim to enable the children in your care to significantly improve their Creative Writing Skills. |
