Here are some examples of the typical contents for story reading programmes in a primary school.

  • Reception

Creative Writing Workshops

Here is a very brief outline of a typical creative writing session.

  • Topic: St George and the Dragon
    - Introduce the theme for the session and read the story and other information
    - Look at paintings and discuss
    - Drama exercise
    - Decide on your character and begin to write to someone about what has happened
    - Share with a partner then re-draft
    - Read some out


    We appreciate that each school is organised in its own particular way and so the programme would be adjusted to suit your needs.


On the day...

It is our practice to openly read extracts from books, particularly for the older children, in order that they may recognise the value of reading a book for themselves.

Whilst we endeavour to select extracts from books associated with your current topic, we will also read other extracts and short stories for fun.

Occasionally we might use puppets, songs and other ways of gaining interest and attention.
